Flowers and Bees Card

Hey, hey, hey crafters!  I've got another card for the Coffee Loving Cardmakers Spring Blog Hop.  The hop is running full steam ahead, like a freight train at full speed and oh my golly goodness.... we are breaking records left and right!  As of this writing, it's only Monday and we've hit nearly 700 entries!  We're way ahead schedule for breaking the record for number of entries.   Woo-hoo!  It's so thrilling seeing so many papercrafters this excited and it's especially heartwarming to have so many very generous sponsors offering up some fabulous prizes.  I'll be sharing some affiliate links throughout, should you find something you like.

For my project today, I've done a ton of masking and watercoloring, using Stamplorations Buttercups and Butterflies stamp set by our very own DT member Becca, who has her own line of stamps called Big Grins over at Stamplorations.  They're super fun too!  I've also paired this with another set from Becca called  Cuppa Love, using that fun coffee cup.  What can I say?  I like her stamps.  I thought these would be perfect, when I saw the sketch challenge that Kerry shared on her Sip N Share feature yesterday.  More about that at the end of this post.

So, let me share a few quick technique features on my card.  I started by masking a bazillion flowers (maybe I exaggerate), using my Misti and a couple fussy cut stamped images.  I watercolored the larger blooms with Ranger distress ink in Abandoned Coral, and the smaller buttercups in Fossilized Amber.  For my greenery, I stumbled upon a happy little accident by mixing the Amber and Cracked Pistachio to great the perfect green for my stems and petals.   By the way, this is an A7 sized card.  I'm also using Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L.

I inked my coffee cup on Strathmore watercolor paper and colored with the same inks as above, and mixing the amber and pistachio again.  I love this sentiment that comes with the Stamplorations Buttercup stamp set, so instead of inking it separately, I masked each line of the stamp with washi tape, and spaced out the words to cover the entire length of the cup.  I colored last, with my waterbrush and Ranger inks, blotting with a paper towel.  Oh, and I drew a little bumble bee, to tie in with the sentiment.

Lastly, I splattered my large coral blooms with white DecoArt multi-surface satin paint in Cotton Ball, using a wet toothbrush dipped in the slightly water misted paint, then running my thumb across the toothbrush to splatter.  I did this in segments, covering up the bulk of my project as I splattered each large bloom.  Be sure and use a large box if you do this, so you don't splatter your craft area.  You'd be surprised how far the toothbrush splatters can fly!  I used that same paint, also, to paint the stamen.  Isn't that what it's called?  Those little fluffy things in the center of the flower?  I am sooo not a gardener so someone, please correct me, if I'm wrong, which I probably am, haha!  I'm also using DCWV papers that match my coloring.

Here's the sketch if you'd like to join in.  Kerry offers up a new sketch every Sunday, so you can pick and choose which sketch you'd like to link up to.  One, or all, it's your choice.  At the end of the month, she sends a fun prize to the winner.

Normally, Kerry has an Inlinkz button for you to link up, however since the Spring Hop is going on, just go ahead and link up to the hop but be sure to use #clcsipandshare in your post or title so Kerry can find your project and count your entry.  Of course, you'll also be qualified for the regular hop prizes as well, if using this sketch.  You can get more information on her post, here.  You can link up to the Spring Coffee Loving Cardmakers hop, here.  The hop ends Friday, 3/31 at 6 pm PT.

If you missed my Coffee Loving Cardmakers design team post, be sure and stop in as I'm having a giveaway.  That post is, here.

Good luck and I hope you are linking up and having fun!

Encouraging Mini Cards for My Creative Scrapbook

This is my last guest designer project this month, for My Creative Scrapbook.   I have thoroughly enjoyed creating cards with the March Main Kit and am featuring a set of mini cards today, using the gold ribbon included in the kit, those amazing Pebbles Simple Life designer papers, and the Pink Paislee Gold Foil Memorandum stickers.

That little gold mini-wreath?  Just trim one side of the gold ribbon included in the main kit and pull some long threads, preferably, the entire length of the ribbon,  Hold out 2 or 3 of your fingers, depending on how large a wreath you'd like, and begin loosely wrapping a good 5 or 6 times or more around the width of your fingers.  Carefully, remove your wrapped thread and find both ends.  Tuck each end around the top of your wreath and tie a knot.  Trim the ends.  You can pull a few loops to make some larger, if you wish.  Adhere to your card as desired.

Look at all the amazing products that come in the March Main Kit.  I've said it before and I'll say it again - It's like Christmas in a box.  Sign up as a new member, and it will be like Christmas in a box every month!

Let me share a few quick tips on creating this mini card set, which by the way, I tried to keep somewhat neutral, to appeal as a masculine card set as well.

I wanted to add some words to the inside of my card, so I grabbed the gold foil Pink Paislee stickers.  Do you ever have trouble lining up your stickers properly?  Use a strip of washi tape, to line everything evenly, starting with both ends, then the middle, and working your way evenly left and right from the middle.  I placed the E and Y first, then the J in the middle.  After that, it's a no brainer to add the N and O, to spell ENJOY and look how nice and straight it is!

For the outside of my card, I split two different 4"x 4" cardstock designs on the diagonal with my trimmer.  I tore pieces of the woodgrain cardstock and sponged on some distress ink, then added my sentiment focal card.

Thanks Pam and the gang for allowing me to hang out and have fun with you this month.  I can't wait to see what the members are creating with this awesome kit!

Easter Trio - Coffee Loving CardMakers Spring Blog Hop + Giveaway

It's time for the Coffee Loving Cardmakers Spring Blog Hop and I've got a ton of fun packed into this post.  You're going to want to hang around for just a minute or two.

I've designed a trio of cards with my own hand drawn little chicks and my own lettering with  Tombow dual brush black marker, and paired my designs with papers from Doodlebug Designs along with a few other fun little touches.

We want you to join the fun as well and link up a newly created project that is spring themed and features coffee, tea or cocoa images.  We have a ton of sponsors who are giving away some amazing prizes for this week long event.  Here's your link with all the information.  It all begins today at 6:00 am pacific time:

My first card features my hand drawn chick with coffee cup and my hand lettered sentiment that sits in a chat bubble die cut from My Favorite Things.  I also cut out some washi tape clouds and drew an outline to make them pop.  All my papers are Doodlebug Design Under the Sea and Swiss Dot papers.  All the hillside stitched dies are from Stamplorations and my adhesives are from Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L.

My second card features another hand drawn chick with a different hand lettered sentiment.  This little guy is holding a "grande".  I do love my grande's!  Oh, and I drew some fun eggs and colored them with my Zig Clean Color brushes in Oatmeal and Emerald Green.  I'm not gonna lie, I was a nervous wreck drawing this sentiment.  I'm not so confident in my skills that I wouldn't totally goof it up and have to chuck the entire project, so I first mapped it out and drew my sentiment first, then added all the elements around it.  Whew, got it on the first try and didn't have to waste any cardstock!  By the way, all my colored images were colored on Strathmore Marker Paper.  To achieve the light effect on those eggs, I used a TH waterbrush and blotted with a paper towel.

I had a little help on my last card.  I was looking for another good sentiment to go with my trio and asked for my teamies to chime in.  Becca came up with "You are one hot chick."  I love it!  I lettered it in a childish, chicken scratch kind of way.  The butterflies are from one of Becca's Big Grin stamp sets at Stamplorations.  They're stamped by swiping 3 different Tombow markers across my butterflies in yellow, pink and blue, spritzing a little water, then stamping on my cardstock.

All of my chicks were also colored using Tombow dual brush markers.  I had so much fun creating these cards.  As I promised in one of my posts recently, I'm having a giveaway in celebration of the CLC Spring Blog Hop.

One lucky commenter will have the choice of receiving your choice of coffee, tea or merchandise from our local roastery, Southern Girl Coffee, not to exceed $15.00 limit or a Starbucks gift card, same value.  Woot!  How fun is that?!

Simply leave a loving comment and tell me which one of my chick cards is your favorite; 1, 2 or 3.  Good luck!

Rose Bloom Reflection

This is one of two projects that I'm sharing today.  I've had a vision of trying to capture a reflection of a flower on water or perhaps, a mirror.  I captured this the best way I know how, using the Mirror Image stamp from So Suzy Stamps, along with the Rose Bloom stamp, So Suzy Ink Bites and the Audrey Hepburn sentiment.  Scroll down for some photos that capture the process.

The design team from So Suzy Stamps has a themed/technique challenge for March; Spring Flowers/Stenciling.

I want to focus on how to achieve that reflection.   Take note of how I placed my Rose Bloom on the rubber mirror image stamp, for the reflection.  Upside down and at an angle on the lower left side of the mirror image stamp.  It doesn't really matter where you place the flower stamp on the rubber, but if I don't put it in writing, I myself will forget how to pull this off!  Haha.

After using your Misti to position everything, lower the lid of your Misti onto the cling side of your stamp and ink your ONLY THE UPPER HALF of the flower image.  Because this is a reflection, in my mind, the entire stamp should not be inked.  Plus, I tried it with the full image and it just didn't look right.

Press the inked stamp down onto the rubber Mirror image stamp.  Do this a total of 3 times for a good impression.  Use a misting water bottle to lightly mist your stamp on the 3rd inking and/or mist your watercolor paper before pressing into your inked image.

When you flip your paper over, your reflective image will be on the right side of your paper.  In addition to the pink ink that I used from Suzy's Coastal Breeze ink bites collection, I also used Ranger Abandoned Coral for the darker tone.  It worked better than a dye ink for the subtle blending with my waterbrush, and also blended well on the full Rose Bloom image, which was done with
no-line watercoloring.  No-line watercoloring is achieved by using a very pale ink to stamp with, preferably in the same tone as the central color to be used.  In this case, the pink Ink Bite.  Note the position of the full Rose Bloom in my first photo.

Once I finished coloring my images, I stenciled my background, added some gray shading with gray pigment ink and darker shading around the reflection, along with glossy accents on my reflection.  Metal brads and iridescent white thread accent my card as well.

Let's not forget the sentiment.  It's the Audrey Hepburn quote and I masked a portion to stamp on the outside, with the remainder stamped on the inside.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  Be sure and visit Suzy's blog for more inspiration, giveaways and one-stop shopping!

Sketch Challenge at My Creative Scrapbook

The new sketch challenge begins today, at My Creative Sketches.  All month long, I'm guest designing and featuring cards for My Creative Scrapbook, made with the March main kit.  This card is my take on the layout sketch challenge.

Can you spot the sketch design features in my card?  I've layered my card with 6 background squares, using the Pebbles Simple Life papers included in the March main kit, along with the coordinating die cuts.

Instead of a photo, I've added one of the lovely framed floral sentiments and the bird house die cut to the left which is in place of another square from the sketch.  Stars, the puffy sticker "love" and everything else you see are included in the kit.

I hope you'll join the sketch challenge and link up your new creation for the chance at an awesome prize.  If you'd like to become the newest member of the kit club, visit My Creative Scrapbook today.

Thanks for stopping by.  I look forward to seeing your creations for the sketch challenge!  You can get all the details by visiting the link above.
